Norton Internet Security 2008 Intrusion Prevention is off everytime computer is booted up?

I have been using Norton Internet Security 2008 for quite sometime. But recently, everytime I start up my computer, the Norton intrusion prevention is turned off. Even after configurating the settings of Norton, the intrusion prevention is still off everytime I start up my computer. Also, the Norton LiveUpdate is unable to install updates for the intrusion prevention signatures. How do I fix this? Is there a virus preventing it?

1. I'm not entirely sure and I'm not pretending to be...but... Earlier this year, some users had problems regarding the Live Update due to out of date Java versions. Check your Java is the latest version. It's unlikely to be a virus or trojan, just one application becoming less compatible with another. If it's a simple Java update issue, the 'prevention' settings issue should also be resolved. PC Advisor just gave NIS 2009 a fantastic review that might see it become less despised by so many.
