PC is incredibly slow since installing Norton security suite. What can I do?

Since installing Norton, my PC takes 7-8 minutes to boot and is constantly chugging along with high CPU usage while I'm working on trivial tasks. What can I do to make it more efficient? There don't seem to be many configuration options with Norton (Security Suite?) 2007.

  1. Norton sucks. You should have gone with McAfee.
  2. Norton is fine, so is Mcafee. The problem is that the new Norton security suite is a real pig. Unless you are running a fast machine with a gig of RAM, then you will notice the performance hit.
  3. Unfortunately what the other say is true. Norton really does take up a lot of your computer's resources and slows it down. If you recently purchased it, see if you can get a refund and if so, this is what I recommend you do. 1) Get Kaspersky anti-virus and 2) CounterSpy anti-spyware. These 2 programs work really well together, will not slow your computer down and will catch more than Norton. They are among, if not the very best. Regards, Zyfert http://spyware.cybersprout.com
