Norton Security Suite

How do you avoid getting malware (like Av Security Suite) for good?

Over the last couple of years, my family has been getting viruses like this one. We had Personal Antivirus twice, something like Antivirus Soft once, and Av Security Suite once. I know the technique of Alt+F4, but sometimes it just starts going automatically. We have Norton Security Suite, which does not detect these viruses. How can I make it so that we never get these annoying fake alerts ever again?

  1. you need to use a good anti-malware program with your anti-virus. malwarebytes is the best
  2. get Linux, you don't get viruses and crap on it, unlike Windows, or even Mac OS X. http://linuxmint.com/
  3. stop visiting anonymous sites and watch out for serious spam which isn't treated like spam and offers products for lower prices. read through my blog's home page, I have put on a simple way to remove malware and how to prevent getting it. http://pcwhiz.wordpress.com
  4. While the Windows fanboys will give "Xuming" td's, he's actually got half the solution. Use a 'dual boot' Windows/Linux computer. Windows for 'in-house' work only, and Linux for all Internet use. 'Out-of-the-box' MS Windows reeks with security problems and bad configurations that average users are unaware of...and so the endless exploits and malware infections, followed by the MS 'fixes' parade. Unless you want to repeat these malware removal processes over and over, you must reform your entire Windows strategy. Using Windows on the 'Net, even with layers of protection, smart user habits, system configurations, "real time" protection; and "threat matrix" awareness is becoming less and less effective daily. The Internet is so fluid and dynamic, it changes almost hourly...and users must be flexible & informed to deal with emerging threats. (Check for fairly current threats here: http://blogs.pcmag.com/securitywatch/top_threat/ Persistent MS "Policy" has put functionality & flexibility ahead of security, and "Do-it-all" suites, or single layer defenses give users 'feel good' security, with inferior protection. Your fundamental strategy should be intrusion PREVENTION: achieved with a layered defense. Stop 'automatic browser action' until you approve it. A minor pain in the arse when compared to re-formatting & data loss or compromised banking & credit card info. Stop using Internet Explorer! You can't rely on an "anti-anything" if you use Internet Explorer, or a 'stock' Firefox browser. Firefox, beefed up with 'NoScript' and my other official Firefox Collection items, stops nearly all malware: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/collection/dunbarpappy All Microsoft installed rubbish (hacks) MUST be disabled! Look in Tools> Add on's> Extensions & Plug-in's. (NET framework, Windows Presentation Foundation, Shockwave, Silverlight, Java stuff, or other active scripting rubbish). Note that deliberate use of 'dark side' sites, porn, peer-2-peer, pirated music & movies, etc. will ultimately defeat ANY security barriers. Use a "Limited User" account and "Sandboxie": http://www.sandboxie.com/ for even better protection. Core defense applications might include (but not limited to): Avast! (anti-virus); http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download or Avira. "MalwareBytes" works for rubbish already plaguing you. Always incorporate a stout firewall: Some freeware is here: http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/security/fwfirewall.html Look them over and match your needs to skill level. SpywareBlaster (snoopware prevention and hostfile guardian); http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html If you don't have time or skill for all this (plus 'updating'), have a look @ "Secunia": checks all your 3rd party & OS version for updates. Freeware. http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/ Most novice users do not like hearing this, but nonetheless, it's true: using Windows requires you to become a security expert, it's that simple. Windows has been 'oversold' to a hoodwinked general public, and is badly broken on many levels. Something they conveniently omit telling you when you buy this system... Making all these changes seems overwhelming, and it is a pain in the keester; BUT IT MUST BE DONE.
  5. You should get a better security suite. I recommend ESEt's Smart Security. It would be good idea to avoid browsing websites where you get infected :) Or clicking on ads.
  6. I think Bill Gates should field this question. Ask him when he's going to have a MS patch for this. Or better yet, a MS patch for his crappy OS. Besides that. Here are steps you can take if absolutely love using a MS OS... 1) Reformat your HD 2) Install OS 3) Install drivers for your computer and all of your peripherals 4) Run Windows Update 5) Get BART PE - and image your computer 6) In the event of any virus or other BS that may hit...just wipe you HD and re-image NOTE: always backup your most important files to an external HD
  7. Don't surf porn. Don't go to malicious website such warez or bt then you will be free of spyware.
  8. Install a good firewall on your system for avoiding this issue... personally I am using Comodo and i am very much satisfied with its performance. You can also try it www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
  9. You should install a good antimalware tool for avoiding this ... I shall recommend you AVG Free that also has the Real time protection..... http://free.avg.com/
  10. You can get rid of this scam manually. Follow removal instructions and you'll be able to delete it for good: http://www.spyvoid.com/remove-av-security-suite-av-security-suite-removal-guide.html
