Does Norton Security Suite protect against hackers?

I know it does a lot of things but I didn't read anywhere that it stopped hackers. I just did a very dumb thing without thinking so I might need to download something else to be safe

1. An educated user protects against hackers. Programs can only deter hackers.
2. it slows down your computer and as default runs an update program that runs 24/7 and updates every hour, every hit on the "norton" website earns them advertising dollars so it's not really your benefit they are looking after, use avira , avast or comodo all better and free
3. I can honestly say I would rather have a virus than Norton. Norton hogs your resouces more than any other anti-virus. Also, it is impossible to prevent viruses crypted with newer crypters so it is rendered useless. Most browsers will tell you what you are downloading when you do, so be smart when downloading. Don't download porn.avi.exe
