Norton Security Suite

How can I get this Vista antivirus software stuff to stop?

I have to wait a little while before I update my norton antivirus software, but right now Vista keeps on popping up and saying that I'm having viruses! I am going to update soon, but every 5 minutes vista alerts me of the same thing. It won't let me deactivate it and it's keeping me from playing games or doing anything! Please tell me how (also, which is better, norton antivirus or vista?)

  1. It's called a rogue. Run GMER before you install Malwarebytes. http://www2.gmer.net/gmer.exe Download the free version of Malwarebytes. http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag=mncol Save it to your Desktop as 55440.exe, Then run it. After the installation is complete, check for updates, then run a full system scan. Restart your computer.
  2. If you need to updade then you already have norton on your pc - right? Well run a full scan on pc and then any virus that it says it has click fix - should do the trick!!
  3. I would load Windows XP or Windows 7, because I despise Vista. The best anti-virus I've ever used, and still do, is Avast! Anti-virus. After installing, I have never had an issue. It runs quietly, and it is free.
  4. Oh, my. Where to begin... Vista Antivirus 2010 is a rogue program. It was created by scammers. http://www.2-viruses.com/remove-vista-antivirus-2010
  5. Vista antivirus isnt actually an antivirus its their to trick u into buying software i found some guides on how to remove it put im not sure if they work or not http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=55178.0 . i would also recommend that u download microsoft security essentials cause its free and actaully pretty good and it is free so long as ur windows vista is genuine.
  6. I agree with "his majesty" or her. Sounds like you have a fake antivirus program. My procedure for getting rid of such an infection: First I start up the computer in Safe Mode with Networking. Restart your computer and keep pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. It's a bit tricky but when done right you will be taken to a screen that has a menu with a number of options like safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode command prompt, and so on. Safe mode with networking gives you internet access in safe mode, comes in handy for updating anti-virus and anti-malware programs. Open up Internet Explorer, click on 'Tools' then 'Internet Options'. When the Internet Options box appears. Click the Advanced tab. Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, click Reset. A box opens up - Then click Reset again. When Internet Explorer finishes resetting the settings, click Close then close again. Restart Internet Explorer. Download theses 2 programs. I have them burned on CD and just copy them over in safe mode. RemoveFakeAntivirus http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/Remove-Fake-Antivirus.shtml Malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/ I like to use RemoveFakeAntivirus first. After it's finished it will request you to restart. Don't! Not Yet! Then Install, Update and Run Malwarebytes. Do a Fullscan rather than a quick one. I also like to take notice of the name of the fake program and do some research online to find out make sure all associated files are removed.
  7. I'm not quite sure what you're referring to, however, I suspect you may have picked up what is known as a rogue antivirus program. A rogue antivirus program pretends to be a real antivirus program but it is designed to con you out of money. It is itself a virus/malware that you have picked up from somewhere. This type of program tells you that you have viruses (when you don't) and then in order to remove those viruses you need to pay a fee. If you pay that fee, the money goes to criminals. These programs often work by nagging you and preventing you from using your computer. Basically, it's holding your computer to ransome until you pay up. Whatever you do, do not pay any money. You should also avoid using any personal banking sites or private web sites that you need to login with a password. In many cases, this software logs your keystrokes and sends that to the criminals as well. Vista itself does not come with a built in antivirus program which is one thing that makes me think you may have a rogue antivirus. Window Defender is the closest thing to an antivirus program that comes with Vista. For a more in depth description of what I'm talking about, please read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_security_software My advise would be to download some free antivirus removal tools and scanners. Once you have those, disconnect from the Internet and then restart your computer in safe mode. http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm Safe mode is a special mode that will run only the basic features of Windows Vista and should prevent your computer from running the virus. Once in safe mode, use the tools that I will tell you about to scan your computer for viruses and remove them. The free tools you should use are as follows: http://free.avg.com (AVG is free and safe antivirus program) http://www.malwarebytes.org/ (Malwarebytes is a free malware scanner) http://www.superantispyware.com/ (Superantispyware is a free malware scanner) http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.aspx (MSRT is a free tool made by Microsoft) As I said previously, download the above tools for free, restart your computer in safe mode and scan your computer with them. It's important you do this in safe mode as scanning in normal mode may not remove the virus/rogue software. This type of software is very good at protecting itself and unless your in safe mode removal will be very difficult. What I've said is my opinion, based on my experience. It could be that you do not have a rogue software program. You've given limited information to go on but in my experience, a genuine virus scanner will not nag you or prevent you from using other applications. I've only ever see the rogue antivirus scanners do that. I hope my information helps you and that you remove this application successfully.
