Is there such a thing as antivirus software or any type of software strictly for wireless routers?

Long story short someone is trying to take back a wireless router saying that they need to update the antivirus software on it. Is there such a thing for a wireless router or any type of software for a router?

1. Routers have no "software" anti-virus. They have no analytic capabilities beyond determining header addresses and the actual routing to the intended destination. There is firmware for the box, and there are configurations that make it more secure, but that's it.
