  1. Kaspersky. Gets the job done beatifully.
  2. I have listed a few anti virus and a few anti spyware programs that are available for download and are completely free: I will not get involved with the rights and wrongs of each package or its effectiveness or indeed “This is best” or “This is crap” statements. Whatever you do, just make sure you have one of each type installed, updated and fully working: Anti Virus http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html http://www.avira.com http://free.grisoft.com http://www.free-av.com Anti Spyware http://www.superantispyware.com/ http://www.spybot.info/ http://www.spywareterminator.com http://free.grisoft.com wdw

  5. Hi You could try Avast Free or AVG Free...I've used them both and they are pretty good at spotting threats. Then there is SuperantiSpyware...that's really good to have alongside the anti-virus program if you're visiting dodgy sites!! It's free as well. Hope this helps you.
  6. If your surfing the adult web sites it's more important to have a good spy-ware program and an anti-virus program. Download spybot S&D and go to lavasoft.com and get the free version of ad-aware run ad-aware every day at the end of the day and spybot once a week keep your anti-virus up to date and your ready to go on the anti-virus I use the grisoft.com avg free and it sorks just fine.
  7. If you are like me, and surf some really bad spots in the world of porn, you need very good protection. Stay away from the popular AVG free software. Trust me, I learned the hard way that it's great for normal surfing, but not for hazardous missions. I would highly recommend purchasing Trend Micro or Zone Alarm security suites. Both have excellent detection and are highly recommended even by the non-profit group Consumer Reports. Zone Alarm's firewall is one of the best out there, and the virus detection technology it uses is based on Kaspersky AV, which has always had a very good detection record. By the way, Kaspersky is another very good program, just is difficult to configure correctly and uses a ton of resources if you don't know what you're doing. Trend Micro costs a little less, I think, and tends to be more user friendly with less issues of computer stability, etc, while Zone Alarm can be absolutely wonderful if you configure it correctly. I have used Zone Alarm Internet Security trials more than once, and has worked fine for my system. That is an option, by the way. You can just download a trial of the software and use it for two weeks to see how you like it. The cool thing is that the trial is fully activated so you know exactly what you would be getting if yo paid for the software. I also like to use BitDefender.com's online scanner as a backup as well. Can configure where to check, and what to do. Scanner automatically will delete anything it finds. Bitdefender also has an internet security package as well, but I have not used it, personally. I do know that it's antivirus is also considered one of the best out there. Of course, there is the big daddy Norton Internet Security as well. I do like this program quite a bit, and have had plenty of good results with it, but with so many people over the years complaining, legitimately, about it's hogging resources, it really depends on the user. In the instances that I have used Norton, I have not had any issues, but I do know friends who have had issues with it, and it's not fun. So personally, I would say choose between Trend Micro (very user friendly, very good results), Zone Alarm (user friendly, very good results), and Norton Internet Security (user friendly once user configures everything which can be very confusing w/ very good results). Norton is about 80 bucks, Trend Micro is about 40 or so, and Zone Alarm is about 40 or 50. be sure to utilize the free trial, as I think all of them may have that available. Please remember as well, the more memory and processor speed your system has, the better. That's the same for pretty much all security suites. As I said earlier though, Trend Micro tends to cause less issue with that than Zone Alarm and Norton programs. At least, in the cases I have come across and researched. Remember that it's also best to still have backup to that like separate anti-spyware programs. Highly recommend SuperAntiSpyware, SpySweeper, Spybot S&D with Ad-aware SE, or Counterspy.
  8. As an IT person, my best advise for you is to use a safe browser like Firefox, and learn how to configure some of the useful addons like Script Blocker and AdBlock Plus. This will help to the extent that a browser can be safe. Next I recommend that you get a reliable antivirus. You can get excellent free antiviruses that protect you against VIRUSES just as well as the paid programs. What people don't realize is that these free antiviruses have little to no other malware detection which will need to be supplemented by a good spyware/malware remover. That is why people always have problems with these programs, because they are expecting them to detect baddies that they were never intended to detect. Simply put, if you use a paid antivirus program you can be a little less vigilant as it relates to your security because they also can detect other malware along with viruses, more of a set it and forget it type of attention. But you still can get infected within these dodgy sites. If you choose a free program I would suggest Antivir which has great detection of VIRUSES, but like I stated before you will need to supplement the missing malware element with a program like Spyware Doctor Starter edition which is also free. This program picks up where the antivirus gets off, to cover the other bases. If you choose paid I would suggest NOD32, which has great detection and picks up malware that Antivir, in its free version cannot. The virus detection of both Antivir and NOD32 will be about the same, but NOD32 will pick up far more malware/spyware type of infections. I would also recommend that even with a paid program you have a malware remover like Spyware Doctor installed because it will pick up even more malware that even paid for antivirus programs cannot detect. Also periodically regardless of the option you choose, I would do online scans at Trend Micro Housecall, which is free and a way to double check behind your anitvirus. I hope this helps you a little. And remember that your protection is only as good as your last update. So update your programs often and scan regularly. Good luck and happy surfing. As a last note, if you choose a paid program avoid Norton and McAfee at all cost. They are expensive, resource hungry, and offer only mediocre performance.
